  1. Jun 10, 2015  Up to OS X 10.7 Lion, accessing the Library folder was quite simple; all you needed to do is navigate to your Home folder, and from there you could access the Library folder. But from OS X 10.8 onwards, Apple has hidden the Library folder, meaning it won’t show up in your Home folder anymore.
  2. In this Tip's N Tricks article, I want to point out a very important tip for getting around one of Apple's more peculiar security precautions in Mac OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. By default, the User Library folder is hidden in Mac OS 10.7 and above. We'll cover a few different methods to easily access this hidden folder.
  3. Access Your Hidden Library Folder With These Five Easy Tricks Tuesday, March 21st, 2017 Author: Tom Nelson. The Mac OS is chock full of hidden areas where data, information, or features have been secreted away from Mac users.
  4. If you’ve lost the Library folder from your User’s home folder after an upgrade to the new OS X 10.7 Lion, open Terminal (Applications Utilities folder) and type the following command: chflags nohidden /Library. Push return and your Library folder will return once more!
  5. Nov 09, 2012  The Library folder under each account user name (the /Library) is, by default, invisible in Lion and Mountain Lion versions of OS X. It is the folder that stores settings and information for various apps, among other things, and is the one that we will be revealing in this tutorial.

A simple thing I did was to unhide the Library folder and then drag it into my Sidebar. Even if an update hides it again, it's just one click away.

Oct 30, 2012 Can anyone tell me how I can view the hidden 'Library Folder' on my External Hard-drive or Time Capsule. I use Time Machine on my Time Capsule and Carbon Copy Cloner on my External Hard-drive. I need to restore some files from 'Library Folder'. I use Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Sorry for the bad english.

Or make an alias of the '~/Library' folder called '~/Library .'

I thought this was a big deal until I actually got Lion and found that option-clicking on the 'Go' Menu item it was there in the list. that's easy enough for me.

This should be the hint.

I simply can't imagine that a person needs to access that folder often enough to justify un-hiding it. You can easily access the Library when you need it by holding 'option' and choosing Library from the Finder's Go menu.

As a software developer, I definitely need immediate access to this folder, preferable in the way I have always had access to it, by simply double-clicking the folder.

This is interesting. I made my Library folder visible when I first installed Lion, and it has stayed that way through every update. I can't remember what method I used though.

Here's a launchd plist that will do the same thing, but without the need for AppleScript, login items, etc. Just drop it in /Library/LaunchDaemons and set the permissions properly.
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC '-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN' 'http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd'>
<plist version='1.0'>
<dict>
<key>Label</key>
<string>local.library.nohidden</string>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>/usr/bin/chflags</string>
<string>nohidden</string>
<string>/Users/*/Library</string>
</array>
<key>RunAtLoad</key>
<true/>
<key>EnableGlobbing</key>
<true/>
<key>StandardErrorPath</key>
<string>/dev/null</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Using the Option-Go menu is fine for the occasional use, but that doesn't work in File dialogs. VERY irritating that they reset this flag for updates or even feel the need to hide it in the first place.

All I do is run the command: $chflags nohidden ~/Library/ There is no need for //usr/bin/ (as mentioned in the previous hint) Then, browse to the folder in the Finder, drag it over into the sidebar, then do the command again. Only this time making it hidden: $chflags hidden ~/Library/ Then, it won't be visible in my ~ folder anymore, but it will still be perfectly accessible from the sidebar.

In Mac OS 10.7, the Library folder is hidden. Preferences, presets, and other user customization settings are stored within this Library folder.

To access the Library folder:

Some features in many Adobe applications require the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE). In Mac OS 10.7, Java is no longer preinstalled but is an optional installation item.

Current Adobe installers and applications were built before these changes to Mac OS and anticipate that Java is installed. Adobe and Apple worked together to ensure that you can install Java with Mac OS 10.7, or at a later time before you install Adobe applications. (When you start an Adobe application, you are prompted to install Java if it isn't already installed.) In a corporate IT environment, be sure to preinstall Java, or make sure that it can be installed through firewalls or other security software.

If the Java Runtime isn't installed, the following issues can occur in Adobe applications:

  • Features are missing or behave improperly
  • The software doesn't start
  • Prompts to install Java Runtime occur
  • Applications hang or quit

For instructions to install the Java Runtime, see How to install the Java Runtime (JRE) | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

In Illustrator CS5 and CS5.1, and in InDesign CS5.5, Crash Reporter doesn’t appear or appears after long delays (10-15 minutes).

When you scroll, the result could be the opposite of expected due to the 'Move content in direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating' feature. To alter this behavior, deselect the feature at the top of the Mouse section within the System Preferences.

CS2 and earlier versions of Adobe products require Rosetta to run on newer Intel-based Mac systems. These older versions are not supported on Mac OS 10.7 as it doesn't support Rosetta.

Mac OS 10.7 has some exciting new features such as Autosave, Restore, Versioning, Full Screen Mode, and more multi-touch gestures. For Adobe applications to fully support these features, additional product development is required. Adobe is working to address this issue. For related information, see Mac OSX 10.7 preference to 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' doesn't work with Adobe applications.

Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, included with Mac OS 10.7 and for 10.6 in July 2011. Adobe Reader and Acrobat continue to work as stand-alone applications on Mac OS 10.7 and 10.6, and render PDF documents outside the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins don't function as expected in LiveCycle. And Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.

Recommendations:
If you use forms, digital signatures, portfolios, guides, 3D, extended PDF documents and rights management, and require the Acrobat plug-in to render PDF documents in the Safari browser, Adobe recommends that you continue to use Safari 5.0.x and Mac OS X 10.6. Adobe will provide updates as it continues to investigate this issue. For additional information, see Apple Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader/Acrobat Advisory.

When Adobe Drive 2 or 2.1 connects to a digital asset management (DAM) server, Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, and the Mac OS X Finder can't display folders or files in second-level folders of a mounted drive. Adobe Drive 3 addresses this issue. For additional information, see Folder contents not visible in drive mounted on Mac OS 10.7 | Adobe Drive 2.x

The Adobe Connect Add-in is not officially supported for use with Mac OS 10.7. For more information, see Known issues with the Adobe Connect Add-in version 9.4.80.0 and Mac OS X Lion.
